Bay Area Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling FAQs

Secrets Of How To Obtain A Competent General Contractor

Do you only create the design?
We are a design, supply and construction company. As such our services encompass all stages of your remodeling project.

Do I need my own general contractor?
We are a licensed general contractor.

Do you do your own construction?
Yes. We are a full-service design and build company, and are, in fact, a general contractor.

If I have my own contractor, can I hire Kitchens & More for my design only?
Sorry, but no. We do not provide designs exclusively.

Do you sub out all the trades?
No, as a full general contractor, the crew that comes to your home is our crew; they are our employees. Also, there will be some sub trades, such as tile and granite installation, that come in during construction under our supervision.

How quickly will you be able to do my remodel?
Please give us a call at 1 (415) 479-1000 so we can see your home, discuss your project with you, and plan when we will start the design phase. Construction schedules can be determined once design decisions and construction drawings are completed.

In “Kitchens & More” what does the “More” stand for?
The “more” is kitchen and baths – providing design, supply and construction. We are also proud to be local dealers of Crystal cabinets.

Do I have to move out of the house for the remodel?
It all depends on how extensive your remodeling project is. Usually it is not necessary to move out. The construction area is sectioned off to minimize the inconvenience of construction.

Do I have any access to the kitchen during the remodel – can I use my sink?
This depends on the scope of the remodel.  If we are doing a complete remodel, which is typically the case, our clients usually set up a small “camping style” kitchen in another part of the house. If you’re just refacing your cabinets, and not replacing the countertops, you may have complete access.

Can I pick out and purchase new appliances directly from retailers or is that done for me?
We strongly suggest that our clients wait to buy new appliances until the design phase has been completed – so that the design is not constrained by the dimensions of the already selected appliances. Once the floor plan is confirmed, however, you may purchase your appliances. Our clients appreciate the assistance offered by Kitchens & More in shopping for appliances with them; this also helps keep the appliance portion of the project on budget.

What materials or fixtures do I pick out?
Once the design process is completed, our clients can be as involved as they wish in the selection of stone, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, flooring, etc. Kitchens & More selects materials that support the design concept.

Once the design is finalized, can I make any changes?
How does it affect the final cost of my remodel?

Changes can always be made. But it is extremely important for clients to realize that changes made once construction has commenced will result in increasing the costs and duration of construction.

What hours of the day will the construction team be at my home during the remodel?
A typical construction day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 4:30 pm. We try to accommodate our client’s schedule whenever possible.

If I have my own general contractor, can I hire Kitchens And More for my design only?
Not at this time. We are design-build only: we offer complete design and contracting services together.

Can I pick out and purchase new appliances directly from retailers?
Selecting appliances is one of the first milestones in designing a kitchen. Most of our clients appreciate the assistance offered by Kitchens And More when shopping for appliances. We suggest that our clients wait to buy new appliances until the design phase has been completed – so that the design is not constrained by the dimensions of the already selected appliances.  Once the design is finalized, clients may purchase appliances directly from the retailer.
